September 2009: New kids on the block
By Sue Floyd
It was with great trepidation that Karen and I came along for the first time to Run Walk HB in November 2008. We were unsure as to what to expect. Would we be fit enough? Would we fit in? Would we be welcome? All our fears were allayed as soon as we arrived that Wednesday evening. All members of the club were so welcoming and friendly we soon felt part of the club.
At first we struggled a little to keep up but over the weeks our fitness improved and we got faster and the hills were not quite so steep. We got so confident we decided we could attempt the two hour walk on a Saturday morning. Once again with some apprehension we waited outside a café at 7.30 AM. There were some familiar faces and some new faces but again we were welcomed and well supported.
We are thoroughly enjoying being part of the club, we now have the bright green jacket and the run walk club tee shirt. It is with a big thank you to all of you who made us so welcome, it is a great club to belong to and all the extra social events that happen are an extra bonus.
We intend to spread the good word next week when we are involved in the registration of the Hastings Half Marathon.
