From your Editor (by Gerard van de Ven)
Welcome all to our September edition of the newsletter. As I said last Sunday morning at the club, this one is bursting at the seams. I even had to put one article on hold for our next issue. We had a bit of a slow start with getting material in, but you all certainly made up for that. It is just wonderful to see all of you participating so much in making our newsletter the success that it is.
As it should be, this newsletter has a lot of tales of our members participating in runs and walks in all kinds of varying distances and places. There are so many events out there for all of you to enjoy and who knows, some of these tales might inspire you to take them on yourselves, in case you have not done them yet. Wonderful tales of “firsts” and marathons no 48 and 49 are thrown in the mix.
One of those was of course our own Hawke’s Bay Marathon, which was a great event, on another wonderful day. With roughly the same number of participants as last year I believe we did very well in the current economic climate. Well done for the organisation and as a participant myself, thanks very much for everybody that helped out on the day and made it happen. I so enjoyed the course this year. The views were just magnificent. Maybe it was because I had a bit more time this year, with an Achilles injury (again) slowing me down.
As you will all know, the Napier Branch is gearing up for the Napier Half marathon event in November. All the information is out and the first entries have started to come in. Something to look forward to it again.
One thing I cannot easily do enough is thank my co-editors Mike and Sue Sheely. They are a super help in getting your stories in and Sue spends a lot of time getting everything they get in the correct text format. It makes my job of doing the final touch ups a lot, lot easier.
Thanks also to our sponsors, Napier City Pak’n Save, Titan Buildings, Shoe Clinic, Eye Deal Opticians and TUMU ITM, Please support them wherever you can.
